Memory-Tech Corporation (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President: Yutaka Ueda) today announced that it is ready to mass-produce all types of Ultra HD Blu-ray discs (UHD BDs: a next-generation Blu-ray format)*, including a large-capacity triple-layer variety.

Memory-Tech, which is one of the early members of the Technical Expert Group of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), has been developing and manufacturing official test discs for UHD BD. The company has been also working on a technology to mass-produce larger-capacity UHD BDs, which are essential to take full advantage of the enhanced video resolution that the UHD BD format provides.

We have recently developed a technology to create higher-density master discs for UHD BDs, using a narrowly focused laser beam from an optical unit of our own design mounted on a laser beam recorder. We have also built an automated production line for triple-layer UHD BDs. These two latest innovations have paved the way for us to start mass-producing all types of UHD BDs, including 50-GB and 66-GB dual-layer discs and 100-GB triple-layer discs.

By the end of February 2016, we expect to increase the production capacity of triple-layer UHD BDs to 300,000 discs a month and that of dual-layer discs to 3 million discs a month.

As an optical disc manufacturer, Memory-Tech is committed to playing an instrumental role in making UHD BDs more widely available in the market.
